My article on the chaos being caused by legal aid cuts

I’ve written a piece for the Our Kingdom website about the chaos being caused by the government’s legal aid cuts.

The article was inspired by last week’s justice questions session in the Commons. I was concerned that the government ducked a question from Labour MP Heidi Alexander about the rise of litigants in person since legal aid cuts came into force last year.

As more and more people are denied access to legal representation and advice due to legal aid cuts, courts are being massively disrupted by a rise of litigants attempting to represent themselves. Among the losers are victims of domestic violence and children caught up in family disputes.

I’ve been involved in campaigning against the government’s legal aid cuts through my union, PCS, and the campaign groups Justice Alliance and Speak up for Justice.

I hope that this article will help to shine a light on the damage being done.
